Wayne Schepens joined FBI Special Agent – Steven Shepherd, MCAC Cyber Analyst – David Crossley, and InfraGard Maryland Members Alliance President – Frederick Ferrer on October 30, 2014 at the Maryland Cybersecurity Summit to talk threat intelligence sharing.

Our nation and state’s critical infrastructure is the foundation of our strength, economic prosperity and health. Critical infrastructure is just not stand-alone physical structures, but inter-connected by and dependent on virtual systems. Given the right technical resources, time and will, a terrorist or criminal element can penetrate almost any system connected to the Internet to harm us. The Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigations are two federal-level entities committed to better protecting our physical and virtual infrastructure and both are connected with the state’s fusion center—the Maryland Coordination and Analysis Center (MCAC.) These entities work together to provide valuable information-sharing programs and platforms through which private companies and persons can get “plugged in” to better shed light on the threats facing them in this ever-changing cyber landscape. This panel focused on what threat information is collected, why threat information sharing is so important, what threat information is available to be shared outside of the MCAC, and how individuals and companies can get access to that information.
